Relevant Details-Katie and Brandon

One of my biggest joys and challenges in this industry is to make the details of a wedding relevant to the couple, their story, and the atmosphere of the event.  But with the abundance of wedding blogs, magazines, and television shows, it is often tempting for clients to copy ideas straight from these sources.  While I admit that there are relatively few original ideas in the event industry and that everything is inspired by something else, I think it is extremely important to chose trends and details that are relevant to a larger story and design.  I also think it is imperative to twist and turn these details into something fresh and "your own."  I thought this wedding was one of the most ideal examples I have.

Katie and Brandon met when they were just children, and so it seemed perfect that the design concept center around a fun, young atmosphere full of color.  Photo booths, candy bars, and bubbles sometimes manage to work thier way into weddings where they have no relevance at all, but in this wedding, they were just perfect!   Great photos by Millie Holloman and Company!

The wedding took place at Wrightsville beach, under this wooden arbor we recently acquired.

I love when my fig tree is producing fruit and I can pluck them to tuck in boutonnieres and bouquets!

The wedding colors were a combination of blue, green, and orange, which made for a beautiful pop of color against the beach landscape.

The reception took place at the Balcony on Dock.

Centerpieces were designed in colorful blue boxes and filled with orange and green flowers.

While I sometimes think the candy bar is overdone, it seemed totally in accordance with the concept of a childhood-inspired event.  Candy was a bright mixture of the bride and groom's favorite treats.

We put colorful labels on the candy bags with a note from the bride and groom.

Photo Booths are all the rage is seems right now, but here, there was no better way to act like a kid, then dressing up and taking silly photos!

Katie and Brandon are huge Wii players, so a few big screen televisions and some wii stations were added.  Totally befitting of the youthful atmosphere.

Again, bubbles are sometimes over used at weddings, but here a perfect ending to the reception.  The bride and her mom tied colorful ribbons on the bubbles.
